Don’t forget to say “Thanks”

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed or get email updates. Cool, man!

During dinner tonight, my husband spent about 30 seconds mentioning several things I do that he appreciates. Nothing extraordinary. Thirty seconds: a mere blip in the evening’s conversation.

But you know what? The buzz I got from those thirty seconds has already lasted several hours. I’m betting it will easily stretch into next week. It means a LOT to be appreciated.  If you feel appreciated, then you know what I’m talking about.

Gratitude is powerful. It’s powerful to get and it’s powerful to give.

Today, I worked on my “Thanks” page for this site. How appropriate! Gratitude pages are a tradition I’ve started with personal sites the last couple of years…like the LowCarbEating thanks page–almost no project is a wholly individual effort, after all.

And you know what? My gratitude pages are among my favorites to update, always. It just feels good to spend time thinking about the people who are contributing, to your projects or you life somehow. It feels good to acknowledge the love you get on every level.  And it feels good to be acknowledged.

You want someones undivided attention? Tell them what you appreciate about them. Be it a spouse, a customer, a coworker, a friend, a relative, whoever–even those who you believe “should know” how much you appreciate them and why will appreciate hearing it. Pure gratitude is a balm for the soul.

Whom in your life do you appreciate? And have you mentioned it lately?
