A lot of people are concerned about finances lately. Duh, huh?
People are dealing a lot right now, and everything we can do pull together in challenging times makes it easier. For those looking to stetch their food budget, a resource I ran accross recently could help: Angel Food Ministries. They provide boxes of approximately $65 worth of food each month for $30.
Their mission: “Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and contributing to benevolent outreaches in communities throughout the United States.”
The discounts are available because of the large quantities of food distributed through the organization. The monthly menus are preset. However, folks can donate back what they won’t use–that’s wicked good karma, after all–and also have the option to order addtional packages at discount rates, including meat packages.
Items are ordered through host sites where the food is distributed, including churches, civic groups, schools and community centers througout the United States. The food is not old, expired, or otherwise inferior. Best of all, there are NO qualification requirements. Anyone who is interested can participate. (They even accept food stamps in payment.)
I would encouarge anyone who is interested in stretching their food budget to take a look. And if you know someone who may be struggling with their food costs, please let them know about this option.
And thanks to Angel Food Ministries, for everyone whose life has been made a litte easier by their mission.
